PCT Taichung Presbytery and Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand Auckland Presbytery signed a partnership agreement recently when Taichung Presbytery Moderator Chen Bing-shiun and Assistant Moderator Lai Shin-sung visited New Zealand from November 9~20. Taichung Presbytery leaders also invited Auckland Presbytery leaders to attend Taichung Presbytery’s 80th anniversary celebrations scheduled next year as well as PCT General Assembly Meeting to be held in April 2010.

On November 10, both presbyteries cemented their partnership by signing an agreement. General Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand Rev. Back Martin and Auckland Presbytery Moderator Rev. Andrew Morton were present for the signing ceremony.

According to reports, Chen had pastored a church in Auckland for four years a while back and is familiar with many New Zealand churches. Rev. Stuart Vogel, the current Asian Ministries Secretary of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, had previously served in Taiwan’s Hakka ministries for two years. These are merely a few examples of previous exchanges between the two Presbyterian churches.

Auckland is located in the northwest region of North Island in New Zealand and happens to be the country’s largest city as well. There are currently 65 churches belonging to Auckland Presbytery, including Maori churches and churches from other denominations.

Because Taiwan and New Zealand share many geographical and demographical similarities, New Zealand churches are very eager to hear about and learn from the experiences of Taiwanese churches and their ministries.
